Our journey begins!

Singapore’s Ministry of Health announces plans for a new integrated general and community hospital in Bedok North. SingHealth takes on the role of developing and operating this new hospital.

Forming of Team EGH

The most important part of our hospital is our people. To begin our hospital-building journey, we set up our structures and began forming Team EGH. Many of our team members are leaders, specialists and healthcare professionals from SingHealth, who bring with them deep expertise and a wealth of experience to build the hospital.

Construction of EGH Healthcare Living Laboratory

EGH aims to be a future-ready hospital equipped with digital solutions and smart technologies. We built the EGH Healthcare Living Laboratory (HLL) as our site office and a collaborative space to foster innovation and trial clinical and spatial prototypes.

Opening of EGH HLL

This unique collaborative space brings healthcare professionals, industry experts and like-minded partners together to innovate and future-proof patient care. The three-storey facility houses our site office, a Design & Experiential Centre and an Engineering Design Unit to facilitate infrastructure and spatial planning.

Learning from the best

It is imperative that the EGH adopts industry best-practices that meet the needs of our patients. Our team took study trips to healthcare campuses across the globe to learn from their experiences and innovations.

Our logo is born!

We developed the EGH logo and identity after engaging with healthcare leaders, community partners, staff and the public through focus groups and online surveys to find out their aspirations towards the future hospital. Their insights helped us shape our logo and organisational statements.

Caring for our community

At EGH, we see ourselves as an integrated part of the community we serve. Our team has been engaging with the community to learn more about their needs and hopes for the future healthcare campus. With our community partners, we aim to make healthcare more accessible to residents living and working in the vicinity, and to improve their overall health.

Eastern Community Hospital

SingHealth Community Hospitals is appointed as the operator for Eastern Community Hospital, which will be co-located with EGH to provide continuing and rehabilitative care services. Together, we are known as the EGH Campus.

Our teams continue visiting local and international health campuses to glean ideas and best practices that can be implemented in the new hospital.

Laying the first bricks

On 20 April 2024, we celebrate a significant milestone in our journey – the groundbreaking of our EGH Campus! Piling and construction for the campus thus begins.

Understanding the needs of our community

Collaborating and learning from our community partners is instrumental as we design patient-centric services that meet the healthcare needs of residents in the east.

Meeting our neighbours

Staff and helpers from EGH Campus team and Eunos Citizens’ Consultative Committee Grassroots Network gathered to visit residents from the nearby HDB blocks. They visited around 620 residential units, presenting residents with fruit packs to thank them for their patience towards the piling and construction works. The team got to know the residents personally and learn about their healthcare needs through these visits.

Inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals

The EGH team participated in career fairs and actively engaged secondary and tertiary schools, ITEs, and Institutes of Higher Learning to inspire students – our future healthcare professionals – to pursue careers in healthcare.

Piling works for EGH is completed. With a main contractor on board, construction of the EGH Campus officially begins
